It goes without saying that we’re big fans of Nikole Ramsay’s work here at TDF. Regular readers will be familiar with her work too — she’s photographed some incredible homes for us (including Leigh Ellwood’s dreamy beach shack!)
But, we’re also big fans of Nikole’s personal work, and today her latest exhibition, ‘Beneath The Surface’ is open for viewing!
This new collection of work was inspired by Nikole’s daily ritual of ocean swimming. The exhibition comprises a sea of images (underwater, body scapes and aerial shots) that capture the varied ways we experience the ocean; wild solo swimming, playful dips with friends, swimming at sunrise, and Nikole’s favourite; swimming under moonlight.
Many of the shots capture swimmers underwater, something that Nikole says was an experience of ‘delightful surprises’.
She says, ‘The light filtering through the surface of the water creates a myriad of unexpected distortions and patterns on the swimmers skin. As the swimmer’s body moves below the surface, it becomes a canvas for the dancing light, transforming the body into a landscape itself… which I find completely beautiful and ethereal.’
One piece, with the exhibition’s namesake, ‘Beneath The Surface’, captures Nikole’s favourite swim spots; the rock-pools of Point Lonsdale. Nikole’s work will be available to view at the Lon Retreat, Point Lonsdale, until July 2 — check it out!
