A Coral Art Deco Bayside Bedroom With Beach Views

Melbourne’s bayside suburbs are home to some of the city’s most beautiful art deco apartments, some with gorgeous water views.

This particular apartment had lost much of its charm in a previous generic renovation. Interior designer Danielle Brustman was tasked with bringing it back to life, paying homage to the original pastel palette in a contemporary manner.

The custom bed linen by Abode Living — designed and made in Melbourne specifically to match the new coral interiors — is just the icing on the cake!

This top-storey Melbourne apartment had the prettiest bones complete with spectacular bayside and city views.

A previous renovation had eliminated many of the original 1930s details, so the new owners engaged interior designer Danielle Brustman to reinstate its former glory.

‘The apartment had been renovated in a fairly generic, whitewashed kind of a way when my clients purchased it,’ explains Danielle. ‘I wanted the apartment to have a contemporary deco feel to it, as well as pay homage to the glorious pastel palettes belonging to the art deco building era.’

A deep rose, mauve, and coral furniture palette was selected to complement the pale dusty pink walls. These dreamy pastel hues enhance the property’s special water and city views, introducing a warm glow into the home.

‘I like working with monochromatic palettes. It helps create a very clear vision and overall feel in a room,’ says Danielle. ‘The colours we chose remind me of art deco fabrics and glassware — vintage colours you don’t often see in production any more.’

The custom bed linen by Abode Living is a perfect colour match adding to the romantic, cosy, and luxurious feel. The family business (who originally founded Adairs!) design and make all their bed linen in their own Melbourne workshop, allowing customers to select their own fabrics, yarn, colours, and finishes.

‘This is a wonderful service being offered by Abode. It allows a designer to tailor the linen to fit within an overall scheme,’ says Danielle. ‘It’s also very special to have something made that is unique. The linen really belongs to the home and the people who use it.’

Abode Living jewel-toned cushions provide the finishing touch, bringing the entire bedroom interior together. ‘I added these deeper tones to work in with the softer shades of the linen and give the overall scheme a little bounce,’ says Danielle.

The completed project is worthy of the building’s 1930s architecture and prime seaside location, creating a coveted contemporary deco home.
