Two of our favourite contemporary artists Libby Haines and Jordan Fleming have teamed up for a new exhibition that’s all about making ordinary moments a little more extraordinary.
The showcase, ‘Beyond the Threshold: Revelations of Domestic Existence’ opens at Saint Cloche gallery in Sydney tonight, running until September 24.
Libby paints coveted still-life scenes, often capturing food and the ‘messy parts’ of everyday life, while designer Jordan creates sculptural objects with distinctive personality — known for her imaginative wonky lamps with long legs that reach human heights.
Despite working across different mediums, both artists have a sense of fantasy. From Libby’s paintings of a half-eaten birthday cake and scenes featuring mysterious gloved hands, to Jordan’s playful take on traditional wall scone lighting, this new exhibition dives deeper into the surrealist elements in their art.
There’s even some shared motifs between the two distinctive collections, designed to make you stop and think beyond the functionality of a lamp, or a familiar image of a kitchen corner.
It’s a feast for your eyes, filled with delicious colours and handmade textures!
