Megan Park and Tiff Manuell’s new collaboration is a celebration of colour across their respective fields of fashion and art.
Megan says the idea to incorporate Tiff’s art into her brand’s spring summer collection was born from their ‘38-year friendship’ that began when they met studying fashion design at RMIT.
‘We were two country kids (Tiff is from Alice Springs and I’m from country Victoria) both with dreams and passionate creativity,’ Megan says. ‘We have been one another’s biggest fans since, on both a creative and personal level.’
She approached Tiff just two months ago, asking her to create a series of distinctive hand-painted artworks that ‘spoke’ to the floral prints and multi-coloured patterns of her ready-to-wear range, Perennial. These have since been cut up and used to create a new range of PVC clutches, classic totes, and handbags, each one slightly different from the next.
‘Not only did we decide to represent her bags in store, but Tiff decided to paint a body of work to be hung gallery style within our Gertrude Street store,’ Megan says of Tiff’s collection, The Brightside.
Tiff worked with ‘unexpected hits of citrus, fluorescent magentas, and pops of red’ for these eye-catching abstract pieces, which she says reflect their friendship and they love have for each other’s work. Even the titles of the paintings are based on messages of positivity and terms of endearment they’ve used for each other over the years.
‘It has been a lovely way to express our true friendship,’ she adds.
